U.S. Representative Lee Zeldin will be the guest speaker when the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons holds its 38th annual meeting at the Southampton Cultural Center on Sunday, May 17, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Congressman Zeldin, who served as a New York State senator from 2010 to 2014, was elected to Congress in November and has been appointed to three House committees—Foreign Affairs, Transportation and Infrastructure, and Veterans Affairs. The public has been invited to hear Mr. Zeldin speak about issues affecting the East End.
After Mr. Zeldin’s talk, the league will present its Betty Desch Student Leadership Award and a $1,000 scholarship to Natalie Palumbo, a senior at Southampton High School.
Senior Sarah Pierson and junior William Taylor Reddick of Southampton High School will be announced as the participants in the New York State League Education Foundation’s annual “Students Inside Albany” conference from May 17 to 20, at which they will learn about state government and spend time on the floor of the State Senate with Senator Kenneth P. LaValle and the Assembly with Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr.
The league will also hold its annual meeting including adopting a budget, electing officers and setting a program for the new year.
